Radical Act of Self-Love: Divorce
My self-love journey led me somewhere very unexpected…to divorce. (Moment of transparency) I labored over WHETHER and how to break the news to you. I seriously considered not telling you… But ultimately, I decided to do it because Naked Memoir is all about authenticity AND being vulnerable but finding STRENGTH in that vulnerability.
Deciding to get a divorce wasn’t an easy decision. I was afraid…primarily of how it would affect my daughter and of the unknown…. I know how to be “Single Chic-a”(very well) but how was I going to navigate being “Single Mom Chic-a”?
What finally gave me the courage to make the decision is realizing that my happiness=my daughter’s happiness. AND I didn’t want her growing up seeing a broken model of a relationship and thinking that’s what a relationship is supposed to be.
Since taking that brave step, I have NO regrets! My daughter and I BOTH are currently happy and thriving. I have grown in many ways and am actually a more present, happy mother.
One of the many takeaways from my divorce: I really pay attention to the person I AM when with someone. Oftentimes in relationships we center the other person, ignoring ourselves and WHO WE actually are in the relationship. I didn’t like who I was in my marriage: anxious, angry, and always in survival mode.
These days I pay close attention who I AM when with another person and how I feel. I want YOU to start doing that too. So ask yourself:
Does this person/relationship ignite my fight/flight/survival mode?; and
Can my nervous system rest when I’m with this person?; and
Do I feel safe(mentally, emotionally, and physically) with this person?; and
Lastly, can I be my authentic self with this person?
In closing, my content will still focus on self-love and taking risks, but now in the context of dating, being a single parent, and just navigating this new chapter in my life.
One thing that won’t change: I’m still going to get “naked” and naked because in creating and sharing with you I want to empower you to commit YOUR OWN radical acts of self-love.
